Across multiple years, Visual Architects partnered with the Kendal Calling team to reimagine and transform multiple stages and themed areas across the festival site, delivering a cohesive yet constantly evolving visual identity.

The objective was to move beyond traditional festival staging and create immersive, experience-led environments that strengthened Kendal Calling’s brand signature, enhanced audience engagement and elevated the overall production value of the festival year after year.
We created a fully immersive overhead installation, covering the space with a dense canopy of artificial foliage, oversized sculptural flowers, mushrooms, butterflies and other botanical details. The ceiling was layered with greenery to create a continuous forest-like surface, with individually positioned decorative elements suspended throughout.
The installation was completed with integrated lighting, hanging features and detailed scenic dressing, allowing the botanical elements to work alongside the venue’s production lighting.
We dressed the tent interior with sweeping blue and white fabric drapes, gathered from the central points and extended across the full ceiling to create the main overhead structure. The installation was layered with suspended circular greenery features, trailing ribbons, decorative pretzels and festival bunting, with warm festoon lighting threaded throughout.
We dressed the space with layers of flowing fabric, combining soft pinks, reds, lilacs, greens and blues across the ceiling and walls. Multiple mirrored disco balls were suspended throughout the structure at different heights, adding movement and reflected light across the installation.
The central area was finished with a draped focal point behind the DJ position, framed by illuminated arch structures and integrated lighting. Translucent fabric panels were layered overhead to create depth, while the mix of reflective surfaces, colour and lighting gave the space a distinctly vibrant, festival-ready finish.
We built an extensive overhead installation for the festival stage, using a tightly layered canopy of printed stretch panels to create a vibrant, graphic ceiling across the structure. The panels were combined with suspended oversized flowers, jellyfish, sea-inspired details, foliage and other sculptural elements, creating multiple layers of detail above the audience.
The installation also incorporated integrated LED tubes throughout the canopy, positioned alongside the hanging features and existing stage lighting. The result was a dense, highly detailed overhead environment that transformed the full stage area from above.
We transformed the ceiling with a layered Christmas installation combining sweeping red and gold drapes with custom printed stretch-fabric panels. Oversized baubles in metallic reds, golds, greens and silvers were suspended at varied heights throughout, creating depth across the overhead space.
The installation was finished with wrapped gift decorations and illuminated festive signage, with the draping gathered into strong radial formations around the existing structural columns.
We created a fully immersive Day of the Dead-inspired installation, using richly patterned fabrics across the ceiling, walls and stage structure to form a continuous visual backdrop. The centrepiece was a large layered floral installation, surrounded by oversized decorative skulls, colourful hanging ornaments and illuminated sugar-skull details.
The production was built up through multiple layers of fabric, printed panels and suspended props, with the symmetrical central feature drawing the different elements together.
We produced and installed a full overhead canopy across the stage structure, using layers of vivid printed panels to create a dense, continuous pattern overhead. The canopy was then built up with suspended foliage, oversized flowers, sculptural birds and botanical details, with elements distributed throughout the space to create depth and variation.
Integrated LED tubes were suspended within the canopy, alongside decorative foliage and hanging features, working with the stage lighting to illuminate the installation from above. The result was a fully dressed stage environment with the ceiling itself becoming a major part of the production.
We produced and installed the timber-framed entrance structure, forming a series of layered geometric arches with a copper-toned finish, integrated greenery and a central festival sign.
For the stage area, we installed a large printed stretch canopy spanning the audience space, using a vivid botanical design with layered sections radiating from the centre. The stage itself was framed with timber structures, foliage and theatrical masks to complete the installation.
Oversized illuminated flowers were suspended at different heights, complemented by smaller floral details, peace symbols and colourful sculptural elements around the stage.
The production continued across the stage structure, with decorated truss, illuminated signage and oversized psychedelic props tying the ceiling installation into the wider set. Integrated lighting picked out the vivid colours and transformed the printed fabrics and hanging elements throughout the event.
We produced and installed a collection of custom scenic elements for the festival, including the illuminated geometric entrance structures, sculptural wayfinding towers and large-format branded installations. Intricate cut-out patterns were incorporated into the timber-look and metal-effect pieces, allowing the structures to glow from within after dark.
The build also included oversized freestanding lettering and colourful sculptural pieces, with printed and painted finishes used across the wider site. From the woodland pathways to the main festival areas, each element was fabricated and installed to work alongside the existing trees, structures and site layout.
