OBJETIVO

Loughborough Students’ Union commissioned Visual Architects to deliver a complete interior redesign, creating a signature environment for students and visitors that reflected the University’s forward-thinking, creative ethos.

The objective was to transform two large interior spaces into a cohesive, immersive experience that blended contemporary design with natural elements. The environment needed to function as a calm, welcoming social space during the day, while transitioning into a vibrant, high-energy setting for evening events and student nightlife.

Following collaborative concept development, our design team produced detailed 3D visualisations to map the full transformation across both rooms. The final concept fused lush jungle-inspired visuals with high-impact neon lighting, combining organic textures with modern technology to create a flexible and evolving atmosphere.

In the main room, hand-painted tropical canopy murals were applied across the walls, complemented by ceiling-mounted foliage installations and immersive photo opportunities. Faux foliage was layered with bespoke neon signage, creating bold visual contrasts that merged natural forms with an urban aesthetic.

The bar area continued the contemporary jungle theme through a custom lightbox installation spanning the rear wall. Large rainforest leaf graphics were displayed behind translucent panels, creating the illusion of depth and climate, with programmable lighting allowing the space to shift colour and mood throughout the day and night.

Custom neon lighting was integrated into the bar ceiling in flowing, curved formations, reinforcing the modern identity of the space. Additional interactive photo moments were introduced, including a swing positioned in front of bespoke neon slogans designed to resonate with the student audience.

The reception area and staircase acted as an introduction to the experience. Full-height faux foliage wall coverings were installed, interwoven with LED neon light tubes in multiple colours. These lighting elements extended from the reception desk up through the staircase, visually connecting the entire interior journey.

LOS RESULTADOS

The permanent installation delivered a dramatic transformation of Loughborough Students’ Union, replacing plain interiors with a distinctive, immersive environment that balances energy, creativity and comfort.

Students and visitors now associate the space with a unique visual identity aligned with the University brand, while strategically placed photo opportunities generate ongoing social media engagement from events and student nights.

Durable materials and robust installation methods were used throughout, ensuring the interior maintains its quality and impact within a high-traffic student environment for years to come.
